Safeguarding audit for a national charity

A national charity commissioned us to undertake a root and branch safeguarding audit of the entire organisation from project to board level. The audit considered everything from policies, safeguarding systems and structures, reporting processes, staff and volunteer recruitment and training, safeguarding records, board papers and agendas and relevant reports prepared at different stages of the organisation such as HR, safeguarding and relevant committees reporting to the board. The audit also considered issues such as lone working, social prescriber work, open events, fundraising and events involving third parties. The findings of the audit resulted in a substantial number of recommendations for the organisation. Since then we have supported the implementation of an action plan. This has included designing and delivering training to trustees and directors, as well as designated safeguarding officers. A follow up audit is planned in the future.
