Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office – Pan Pacific Regional Event 2024

Hosted by the Brisbane Consulate Office, this event considered:

• A brief overview of current trends/safeguarding patterns that have an international trend including (but not limited to): domestic abuse, mental health and suicidal ideation, radicalisation and extremism, sexual abuse/exploitation and county lines/criminal exploitation
• A Q&A session based on Adele’s personal experience focussing on best practice issues, specifically:
  • Understanding how children and vulnerable people respond to harm, including not telling the truth and protecting abusers, self-blame, impact, long term outcomes etc.
  • Evidence based practice which assesses and responds to risk
  • How children and parents experience services and intervention; and how to act with empathy and in a way that supports rather than adds to the problem/increases the risk.
